Post with 1 note

To many times we think that not much can surprise us… Well this weekend my wife and I were able to surprise her family. Were we live we ended up getting 8 inches of snow, in this part of the country that is the equivalent of an avalanche falling from the sky. But anyway, I work in a profession that doesn’t hardly let me off on Sundays (I am a youth minister). My wife (we will call her “E”) had checked her school schedule early Friday morning and found out all her classes had been canceled. The thing that got me was there had not been a drop of snow. Fridays are my usual days off, so I was thinking this will be a great day to just hang out with E. We were able to play Mario on the Wii, some cards, and Phase 10 Dice (E beat me). Well, we had found out that her family was driving to STL for a short trip. We wanted to go up there so bad to see them, but we kept hearing of this massive storm that was to come threw. Finally, about 11 am on Friday it started to snow and kept snowing until 3 am Saturday morning. Everything was shut down (roads, stores, school ect. ect.). I received a call that morning from the pastor deciding to cancel services for Sunday. I was blown away. I couldnt believe it. As the Saturday progressed we decided to watch a movie. I fell a sleep (no surpirse) and so did E. It was about 3:30 pm and I awoke with the notion to check the roads on-line (if you didnt know, your state has a website that will tell you the condition of the roads). So we check out to see what was said… they were clear!!! We decide right then and there to make a trip to STL. We drove and as this drive continued we were debating about what to do, should we call? We decided not to. When we arrived at E’s grandmas her uncle was pulling out of the drive to head home. We stopped him and he called E’s mom (we will call her “L”) to tell her she needed to come out and talk to him. When L opened the door we walked up… L was so shocked, her mouth dropped to the grown and tears almost fell.
I tell you this story to encourage you to surprise the ones you love this month of February. Do not do the same old thing. Be creative and show love that speaks more than words on a card or flowers in a vase… Say love in a new way.
until next time…
